The concise version:
In Vegas Pro 9.0b, checking "Adjust source media..." when "match Output Aspect is also used within clips produces serious noise at cuts.
I hope this helps other vegas Pro 9.0b users avoid heartache.

For the longer and much more nerve-wracking version, now read on, going backwards in time...
Day 10
I noticed that one of the fixes in the recently released Vegas 9.0d refers to the following:
Fixed issue with Event Pan/Crop Match Output Aspect when Adjust source media to better match project or render settings applied to the source media
Ahaaa!!
In my 56min project I have used "Match output aspect" extensively, and in all of the Hi-8 clips. In these last burns I had also checked the "Adjust source media to better match project or render settings" box in hopes of getting the best possible result. This simple decision could well be the culprit. When I did yesterday's test on the other machine, I added the MPEG-2 file to a project that had the Match box unchecked and it worked almost perfectly. So...
Day 8
As I type I'm doing a render on the original QUAD machine with Match Output Aspect UNCHECKED. I haven't installed the new burner because I want this to be a good cross-check.
RESULT: Perfect render except for two clips. These culprits were from digitised Hi8 camera tapes and had velocity envelopes set to 70%. Removing these envelopes has given me a perfect render.
Day 3
I have a 56min HDV project in Vegas 9.0c (not going near 9.0d!).
It contains a mix of HDV footage, a lot of SD footage captured from Hi-8 camera tapes, plus Cineform HD renders of flight simulation footage captured using FRAPS.
Timeline playback of the project is effectively perfect, ie no apparent technical issues.
Normally I render the whole project to a Cineform 'Master' and then render from that to DVDArchitect separate video and audio streams, using single pass VBR mostly, but double-pass for the final render. Up until recently, ie over several months, the resulting DVDs have been technically faultless.
Now I have I have two issues.
1. video glitches
Glitches throughout, counted over 50, mainly in the cuts/transitions. To me it looks like a bad compression out of Vegas. Very noticeable when you go from still to motion.
Question is why has this suddenly started happening? Could it be the DVD burner?
I'm going to try taking the latest MPEG-2 file across to a different computer and try burning it from there. Maybe that will solve it, although it's a huge pain!!
RESULT: almost faultless render
2. Now to make matters worse I am getting Vegas crashes about mid-render when trying to render to either Cineform or as m2t. Renders to separate streams go to completion, but now have these glitches.
I have been plagued for ages with the dreaded red fame issue and I attempted to get around that by using advice from the Forum, namely adjusting internal Prefs in Veags to increase RAM Preview limt to 1024 and increasing "Memory needed by Vegas" from 384 (default) to 1024.
This seemed to have solved the red frame issue over the past 3 weeks, but these recent crashes are driving me nuts on a complete 56 min program that won't render properly, even though it used to.
Computer is Quad Core 6600 with 3GB RAM
ASUS EAH 4850 1GB Graphics.
All latest drivers and Win XP SP3 all up to date.
