Adjusting Highlights (Color Grading)

Julius_ wrote on 9/26/2025, 7:01 AM

Hi,

So, I compared Vegas with Premiere Pro regarding adjusting highlights. Vegas can't seem to get the job done for me, and I need to revert to PP.

I applied the same steps in Vegas and PP. Apply a lut and adjust highlights.

In Vegas, if the highlights is adjusted, the colors turn more to yellowish/burning.

I exaggerated the highlight levels (both to the max) to illustrate the point.

Image on the left is Vegas (Highlight to the max), and PP on the right (Highlights to the max).

What am I missing?

So, you compared the two programs and found a difference?
It just proves that Vega didn't copy Premiere and Premiere didn't copy Vegas...

Exposure and highlights is not the same....The Log.Exposure affects the whole image and not just the highlights.

Thank you Yelandkeil, but I am not getting the same results at all.

I kept it simple...slog3 footage, lut applied, change highlights, and I still get same results:

(Doing this in PP changes the correct values)

My understanding:

RL (range limit) Color-Wheel gives you fine-tuning opportunities in the 3 areas Shadows, Middtones and Highlights.

You can highlight anywhere but not in Highlights area.
