Adjusting Volume on 5.1 tracks for total non-clipping?

I have 17 AC5.1 tracks and wonder how to keep the total accumulation from clipping ---as you add each sound or wait till finished and then re-
adjust the whole mess. I don't want to use normalize as it takes all of the low level sounds (low on purpose) and raises them up to normal. I want to maintain the dynamic range but still not clip. Is there an easy way to do this other than hunt & peck? The tracks are all mixtures of different noises and some music. All at different levels.

You could add Track Compression or Graphics Dynamics to the master bus. This will keep things from clipping at the master level. If you need more control you can use Multi-Band Dynamics. If you want to process music differently from other audio or ortherwise adjust tracks in a group, you can add a few buses and assign the appropriate tracks to each bus and add FX at the bus level. There are lots of ways to accomplish this in Vegas.
