ADVC-100 - Strange Line in TV Preview

Okay, sending this out to see if anyone had a clue as to what was going on. I have a 13inch Sony Trinitron TV that I am using for the external preview via the Canopus ADVC-100 and my firewire card.

The picture comes through great during previews and playback and everything but there appears to be something wrong.

There is a strange faint gray 1 inch think line that stretches across the full screen on when the tv is in video mode and continually cycles from low to high while I have the ADVC-100 turned on. This faint moving line does not appear when I connect my dv cam straight to the tv for video previewing. It only happens when the video signal comes from the ADVC-100 instead of my dv cam.

My setup is simple - VV3, Adaptec DuoConnect OHCI card, 6 pin firewire cable connected to the computer and 4 pin firewire cable end connected to the front of the ADVC-100, regular composite video output from the back of the ADVC-100 to the tv video input.

It seems like there is just an error processing the digital video or something and putting it on the tv. I don't know. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Like I said though, when previewing via vv3 and the ADVC, the picture comes through fine but there is this faint line that moves from low to high while previewing if you look carefully enough that seems to be mysterious.

Sorry if this is very confusing. Didn't know any other way to explain the problem. I could send screen shots if need be of the tv itself and the line on it.

Thanks

A bar the entire width of the screen floating vertically on a TV screen frequently is the sign of a open capicator in the circuity. Not a big concern, but for sure a major annoyance, like a dripping faucet, you wait to hear, you wait to the see the bar flow up the screen over and over. It could be in your camera or ADVC as well or something totally different. Try to pin it down to which device is causing it as a first step. If it is the TV it should be visible, perhaps fainter when watching TV, but may not be as obvious, except during certain scenes where the contrast isn't enough to obscure it.

Sounds to me like a possible problem with the power supply to the Canopus. These types of bars are commonly caused by stray voltage present on a ground somewhere. Try plugging the Canopus in a different electrical outlet first (try finding an outlet that is actually run off a different circuit. Also, try a different power supply to the Canopus, check the specs and try to find a matching one at Radio Shack or call Canopus for a replacement. It could also ba a problem with the converter itself.

Check and swap out your video cables that you are using too.

Like Billyboy said, this won't harm anything........just damned annoying.

It sounds like RF interference.

Try disconnecting the RF cable from the back of the TV if it is attached.

If that doesn't work, try moving the TV further away from the computer.

Also, you might try a filtered power supply to plug the TV into to see if that clears it. As an alternative, try plugging it into a long thick extension cord which goes to another room for power.
