I've seen people use erasable markers to draw crop lines on the flip out LCD, if that is any help. Both my cameras are native 16:9 so my cropping expereince is limited to recycling old 4:3 BetaSP footage. I think the crop lines would work, though.

you can buy the protective film sheets for PDA's and mark on them then apply them to the Lcd. Ive used them with permanent marker, work great plus you can expirement with box size.
ussaully come in a box of 6 or so.
