Again: Sony YUV codec

I know this topic has been discussed before. Last days I did some tests again with the Sony YUV codec and I am very unsure of the properties and what it does.

Some people say it produces a signal with 16 bit per cannel. But Vegas and several other AVI analyzing tools say it is 16 bit per pixel.
Some people say it does compress. But if it is 16 bit per pixel - it does not compress. It results in 20 MB/sec which fits exactly the calculation of such an uncompressed YUV format.

But if all the analyzing tools are wrong (and Vegas too which only displays bits per pixel) and it is REAL 16 bit per channel then of course it's also true it is a compressing format.

Anybody have first-hand information on this?

Marco
