AIF File Import Issue

David-Bilodeau wrote on 3/17/2025, 6:14 AM

I'm importing .AIF files from an Apple recording program. Other programs I have on my PC import the files and show and play the waveforms. Vegas 22 Build 239 is loading the files but the waveforms are completely null/empty. Anyone have a solution to this issue? The previous build (194) did it too, as does Sound Forge 16 (latest version I have).

@David-Bilodeau I just exported a AIF from Izotope Rx and brought it into VP 22.243. It worked fine.

Could you share a link to download your file so we can see if it's a problem with VEGAS on your system or specific to this particular media? (and if the latter let the developers know).

Vegas Pro's 'Supported Formats' in https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/product-comparison/ shows that .AIFF is a compatible format, but the OP has advised .AIF - a related but almost identical format. I wonder if that extension difference is important? Perhaps try changing the extension name from .AIF to .AIFF and see if that enables the waveform to build in Vegas Pro.

Just to check, make sure that you don't have either 'Hide new .sfk files' or 'Do not create .sfk files to store peak data' enabled in Options/Preferences.

FWIW my file has an AIF extension (aren't Windows extensions 3 letters?) and is an AIFF file according to MediaInfo.

AIF may be a container with a variety of contents and here it's PCM.

The 22.1 upgrade didn't present itself until I upgraded to 22.0.239. Does anyone have 22.1? The direct download came down as 22.0.239 and that re-installed Vegas.

The 22.1 upgrade downloaded but apparently did not install.

The codec still works and I have valid waveforms now. Weird one. I'm not even sure the codec for the other software did the trick. Maybe the re-install of 22.0.239 resolved it.

AIF v AIFF was purely a suggestion - but Vegas Pro's spec do state AIFF.

Anyway, I follow that great modern philosopher - Shakira - who sang:

22.239 is the latest version of VEGAS.
VEGAS Deep Learning Models 22.1.0.0 is the latest deep learning module. You need that for the Ai Fx. If it didn't install properly try again or download it from here. https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-where-can-i-download-vegas-pro-and-other-vegas-software--104782/

It’s embedded in NCH software. I have the trial version and when I went to test the .aif file it auto-downloaded.
