I've been using AlamDV since 2001. If I ever have to add an effect, I render an uncompressed file out from Vegas, add the effect in AlamDV and then put it back out to uncompressed again. I've used bitmaps and composites (Bluescreened) as outs. Still uncompressed of course and it works well.

Peace,
Adam.

Yeah, I always render uncompressed. I'd also like to point out that with Alamdv3, which is in development now, this will not be a problem. Version 3 will support every dv codec, I'm pretty sure.

Er...they only recently anounced AlamDV3. They mentioned the upgrade for 2 to 3 back in early 2003. But the news of Adv3 has only come about in the last 2 months. And it's looking great. Read all about it on the news pages. Great new features. Especially the creation of the effects. No more pictures of effects, they will be created within the program!! Looking and sounding great. :)

Peace,
Adam.

If you don't want to render an uncompressed file here's another method:

When rendering a PAL or NTSC DV-file, make sure you click the "Custom" button. Then click the video tab. The last checkbox says "Create an OpenDML (AVI version 2) compatible file". Uncheck it. Render.

The new file should work in ALAMDV2.

I render to uncompressed. if I need to I actually render out of Vegas as uncompressed and than out of Alam as uncompressed. For about the last year they have talked about AlamDV 3 and what it will do but for various reasons it has yet to materalize, but I have been using AlamDV since the start with no issues.
