I hope someone has seen this before.....
I am running win2000, SP2 on a Athlon 1.1 Ghz machine.
I have the latest build of Vegas Audio 2.0. While working on a project, if I hit the "play" button, the machine freezes for about 15 seconds. Up pops a window that says "an unexpected error has occurred. vegas could not determine the cause of the error." Click OK. Hit the play button a second time, and it plays just fine. Hit stop. Hit play again, and likely I will get the freeze + error message thing again. Imagine trying to do editing with this.
In a possibly related story, Acid 2.0 is also giving me problems. I can't play a song for more than 5-10-15 seconds before the sound drops out, the meters freeze but the time keeps moving. Hit stop, wait for a while, eventually program responds and stops. Hit play again and I get "error trying to open audio device." To get any sound again I have to quit Acid and restart.
Thinking that it must be something with a sound card or driver issue, I trying changing out my sound card and put in something completely different. Same problem with both programs.
These songs are simple, with few tracks and one or two plug-ins. I have taken my software + songs to a slower machine and they play just fine on (a) a NT machine and (b) XP machine.
I'm at a loss to explain why it won't work on the faster win2000 machine.
Any suggestions?
