almost full disks

I have looked at the demo's of a few dvd authoring programs and have decided that dvd architect is for me! I am going to buy a DRU500AX. However, before I pay for the hardware and software, I wonder if someone can answer a question for me. I have seen a few posts here that large files that fill the dvd to the rim do not work with dvd architect. Most of my burns would fill the dvd and would be a single video file with a bunch of chapter pointers. Has anyone burned an almost full dvd (4.6G out of the available 4.7G for example) on DRU500AX? Thanks for your help.

A 4.7 gig DVD disc will only hold 4.37 Gig. But they WILL hold the full 4.37 Gig. The difference in the numbers is how they are calculated:

4.37 Gig = a computer gig (roughly 4,692,252,000 bytes)
4.7 Gig = base 10 - 4,700,000,000

Thank you for your reply. I understand the difference and how they goofed with the nomenclature to fool us. But can DVD Architect write an almost full disk using DRU500AX?

It has on my A03. I don't have a DRU500AX.

On my HP 200i I got 4,654,495,010 bytes or about 99.5% capacity. :-)

What's the deal with the 3.95GB / 4.7GB limit drop-down box? Why does it default to 3.95?

I have autored a number of them in the 3.8 to 4.3 gig range with no problem never got as high as you are looking for. Use a DRU500A works great for me.

The initial recordable DVDs were 3.95 GB. I agree it should defalt to 4.7 instead.

My Sony DRU-500A is not even seen by either Vegas or DVD. Vegas Video 4.0 and DVD Architect does not "see" my DVD-RW drive; a Sony DRU-500A...Under Options>>Preferences>>CD Settings, "Burn Drive states "No Device" and there are no other drives listed under the drop down arrow...and in DVD Architect it also displays No Device...any ideas...I have used my dive for and with a multitude of oher apps... I am runing XP SP1, with AMD 1900+ 1GB DDR 2100...any ideas...?

What compression % do you use to get that?

I found that **94%** is the magic # for me. It fills up to about 4.55+ MB. Not 93%, not 95%...94%.

Thanks.

i just completed a 28 scene project...coming in at 94% full...perfect...i had it set at 99% and i had a few 'glitch' issues at that size...re-rendered @ 3-4,000,000 and perfect.
