Powerr.com has some nice DV>analog converter boxes for PAL (and NTSC, and NTSC and Pal together).

If I'm bringing my video in through Firewire do I still need a DVMC ? What is the advantage of it ?

I have an ATI All-in-Wonder Pro card to go bak out to vcr tape if necessary. Will that do ordoes the DVM give me better clarity going back out to analog ?

You won't need the converter to capture from a digital camcorder to the
firewire port. You'll go straight firewire from the camera to the computer
for that. You would only use it for capturing from analog since it is much
better than the AIW capture.

For output, you can use the AIW video out, but i've found that the image
is slightly squashed vertically, so everyone looks kinda short and fat,
and there are black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. The Sony
converter doesn't have this problem, so it is preferable to the AIW there
too. It will also allow you to use the Print To Tape feature from VidCap,
which you can't do with the AIW card. I guess you just have to decide if
it's preferable enough to spend $300 on or not.

Why dont you just buy a cheap Sony PAL digital 8 camcorder to do your A/D conversions ? Same quality, much more useful.
