Alternative to Sony's SxS card

I just got my e-films e-LCR Lockable Card Reader. It's an alternative to the Sony SxS card, but WAAAAY cheaper. The adapter cost me $55. I bought two 16GB SanDisk Ultra SDHC cards that are placed within the adapter. Each cost me $90. Total came out to $250 plus shipping and handling for the e-LCR. Compare that to a 32GB Sony SxS card which could run up to $800, and you can see the BIG savings. I'm able to shoot all formats of HD on the Sony XDCAM PMW EX-3 at a fraction of the price. Just tested out the cards, and they work FLAWLESS!!! I'm so STOKED.

I've been using the MxM adaptors and SDHC cards since they first came out ages ago. With the release of the EX1r it gets even better, the 3rd party cards perform as well as the SxS cards apart from read speed. These cards are so cheap I'm using them much like tape so the whole 'tapeless' debate kind of goes away.
We also recently bought a quite cheap Dell Studio 15 laptop that has an Express34 slot so downloading either the SxS or SDHC cards is very fast and convenient. Now if only Vegas would catch up to the rest of Sony, sigh, all that lovely metadata sitting there and no use being made of it.

The big question, why does the SxS cards have such a high write speed that no camera to date uses, do I detect an EX camera that records 4:2:2 in Sony's plan for world domination?

Further to DJ's comment on P2, why don't Panasonic use it, it's not owned by Sony, anyone as far as I know is free to use the same cards or build their own to the same specs

Sony are officially supporting SDHC recording having announced their own adaptor.

Do these adapters work with doing slomo? I thought I had heard when they first became available that didn't write fast enough.

As of today in the EX1 only up to around 40fps. In the EX1r they work the same as the SxS cards.

Hardly a big issue as the camera comes with one or two 8GB SxS cards which is more than adequate for shooting the odd slomo scene.
