Am I gonna kick myself? OT

so, I'm looking at getting all omni polar pattern mics - but I do do some of my own nar. Would you guys suggest I use an 899 omni or get a cheaper cardioid.

BTW, are there some good recievers that can fit on the hotshoe mount of a camera? saw camera mountable on the U-101 and was sorely dissapointed by their idea of camera mountable (I'm sure they must have meant Shoulder mount cams).

You'll kick yourself if everything is an omni.
Were I building a 2 mic kit....it would be an 897 and an 899, but there are other great mics too. Those would just be my personal choices.
AT and Sony both have hot-shoe mountable recievers.
you can modify the 100 so it fits underslung, like a Beachtek.

problem is that I'm kinda hitting my $$$ limit. With an underslung mounting, does the 100 interupt the tripod mounting?

Yes, it will interrupt the tripod mount area, you'll need an enclosure box that the 100 goes in, that will have a tripod mount on the bottom.
Keep in mind the 100 comes with a belt pak, so it's just a short cable run from the beltpak to the camera's inputs. I thought the Sony system cost a little less than the AT system though? And it has a shoe mount.

What are the Sony and AT recievers? I wasn't able to find anything in my limited understanding of the audio world?

Thanks for your help spot. I sure do appreciate it.

We're using the Sennheiser G2 500s, very nice piece of gear and they have an adaptor to mount the receiver on the hot shoe, works very well on the Z1.
Lots of places are selling the G2 100 series, for my money the 500 kit is WAY better. We did splurge on the mics, pretty much top of the line broadcast standard lavs, around AUD 500 each but they sound very sweet.
This new Sennheiser gear runs on 2xAA batteries and is a lot smaller than the previous model, runs for around 6 hours on 1400mAh NiMH rechargeables, don't waste your money on the Sennheiser batteries and chargers, they're a little more convenient but pretty pricey compared to what you can buy in any electronics shop.
We've got around 6 Sennheiser kits that are in pretty constant use and have never had an electronics failure in one, broken leads are all that take them out of service.

I like the Dual diversity of the Sony - Anyone have any suggestions for mics to get with it?

(2 omni and one uni-directional)

Use the 899. That's what I'm doing....but the Sony ECM's are pretty slammin' too.

does it require a special adapter? (is that adapter as big as the power supply that's already provided? - I'd like to just have the mic go into the transmitter, and then have it picked up at the reciever and go into the XLR of the cam. (maybe I'm asking a lot)

Thanks again for your guys patience

No, you can power it from the transmitter using a Hiroshi connector.
http://www.creativevideo.co.uk/gimme/storereframe.php?view=item&item=sony_uwp-c1-67-hr is an image of the whole assembly on a camera. Balanced out from the receiver to the cam, and balanced input from the mic to the transmitter.
I did a Google on AT 899/UWPC1, and found this one. It's a very nice package, no doubt.

Would work with a standard UWP-C1? or are we talking about a special connector on the top of the transmitter. - cant seem to find any pictures that would tell me for sure that the 4 pin connector is the connector on the transmitter - unless that's what mini mic connectors are)

Dave

(BTW - If I go with the Sony setup - I'm looking into the Countryman B3 (anyone have experience with these?) are they comperable to the B6. they come in a Mini jack that I'm pretty sure will work with the Sony setup. (will that same mini jack work in an I-river?
