AMD Driver and Ignite Pro

Reyfox wrote on 10/25/2022, 6:10 AM

I am using an AMD RX6700XT graphics card. I also have Ignite Pro installed. Updating to the latest AMD graphics driver causes clips with Ignite effects on them to go black, or the effect, such as lightning, does not play back correctly.

The current driver is 22.10.1. I also tried the latest Pro driver, 22Q3 with the same results.

What is perplexing is that with the latest graphics driver, Ignite works in Hitfilm Pro 2021.3, Resolve Studio 18, and Movie Studio 2022. So why not Vegas? I have had to go back to 22.5.1 and Ignite is working.

I have several projects that have Ignite FX, so it's sort of necessary. The latest graphics driver offers improvements and usability in other software that I use.

Any thoughts?

Unlike other OFX plugin packages, I am not sure that Ignite Pro is a 'pure' OFX plugin package when it comes to Vegas Pro. Go back to Vegas Pro 17 when Ignite Pro had to issue an update from v4.0 to v4.1 in order for it to function in VP17 because Ignite Pro included coding specifically referring to Vegas Pro (Sony v MAGIX from memory - in VP17 Vegas was clearing out old coding referring to Sony). This at the time did not of course affect HitFilm Pro because Ignite Pro was HFP's VFX offering released as an OFX plugin package for inclusion in other NLEs.

If Ignite Pro's coding still has some unique coding aimed at Vegas Pro, I wouldn't expect that FXHome (Artlist) would be releasing any updates (like 4.0 to 4.1) given that for all intents and purposes Ignite Pro is a discontinued product (despite FXHome saying on their forum nearly 18 months ago that Ignite Pro will be coming back bigger and better).

I posted in FXHome forum a few days ago asking if there has been any update on the "bigger and better" for Ignite. Crickets. FXHome has seemed to change focus to other forms of content creation.

But the thing is, Ignite works in other software with the updated graphics drive, but not Vegas.

I've reverted back to 22.5.1 and it is working now, which seems to point to Vegas and the way AMD drivers interact with it.

TikTok. Since the ArtList take-over, FXHome has clearly moved from the pro/semi-pro market to the inanity of the phone market ("look at my selfie in front of the Trevi Fountain - and I've added some bubbles - how cute is that").

In an earlier comment on this forum by a longtime regular on the FXHome forum (if I recall correctly), most of those millions of HitFilm users are using the free version - apparently few are using the paid HFP version.

I didn't want to say it, but glad you did, the cellphone crowd. I would guess that "free" is what a lot of the people are using. The "pro" version is quite expensive if you don't want to rent the software forever. Sad. I would have loved it if Magix to purchase them. A combination of HFP and Vegas would be amazing, Vegas Post with all the features of HFP.

Because of the lack of work on the "pro" side, makes me wonder a bit about Post. I'm considering upgrading to it, but don't want an EOL product.
