Amination as lower third

VLXRider wrote on 2/19/2009, 4:58 PM
I am using Vegas Movie studio platnium 9.0. I have some background movie clips in avi format that I want to intergrate as a lower third. Problem is they are 720x480, which is fine but I would like to fill the bottom of a high def as 1080i or 720p movie. Is there any way to stretch the background movie to the lower dimensions and apply some blur to it? Can you provide some screen shots how to do this or perhaps a video tutorial.

Thanks

You could probably do exactly what you described by simply stretching the video using pan/crop and adding blur in an Event FX. However this is the Vegas Pro forum and I'm not sure what capabilities Movie Studio has.

Jim - won't Pan Crop just take a thin slice of the frame rather than squeezing the whole down to a narrow strip?

Another approach would be to apply the Deform FX - set Left and Right to somewhere around 0.863 and Amount slider up around 0.950 as required, then use Track Motion to place it down as a lower third.

Or just use Track Motion to Squeeze down?

Pan crop allows you to squeeze or crop.

D2? P/C allows us to squeeze? - I don't understand?

Turn off MAINTAIN ASPECT RATIO and turn ON STRETCH TO FILL FRAME and instead of cropping, you can expand or squeeze the image.

DT2 wow, - I don't think I have ever ever done that! Maybe 'cos I got to working with TM earlier? But I am guessing with this method I am getting better reso? - Anyways, thank you!

See the two SQUARES above the direction arrow.

You need to deselect those as well.

One is SIZE ABOUT CENTER and the other is LOCK ASPECT

VLXRider, try DT2's suggestion again as it does work.
Check these screenshots.

Yes that did it, thanks for the help. Now to buy some of those cheat background clips so I can have some more professional lower thirds. Don't forget to apply a blur to soften those sharp edges and turn the trnasparancy down too.
