I'm looking at CDA4 right now and I don't see any waveform scaling. Am I missing something?
In CDA5, the waveforms scale with the event-based ASR (fade-in, fade-out, gain) envelopes, which are also used for auto-crossfades, but not with the layer envelopes.
There's also the waveform scaling which can be done with Shift+Up Arrow, I like to use that to find the "real" end of songs, when they hit digital silence.
oh, very cool... I hadn't realized that both ASR envelopes *and* layer envelopes with nodes can be used at the same time.
would you clarify signal flow, then? perhaps a block diagram would be in order for the manual, one showing all the stages: ASR envelope, layer envelope, track processing, master processing, master level. Maybe I'm missing a couple.
I should have specified I was referring to CDA5 in my post. sorry about that. I'm starting to get a better idea of just how deep the new package is and I thank the SOFO team for finally eating crow and reviving CDA.
A little request: please include the "set to 0.0dB" and "set to -Inf. dB" options when you right click on the layer envelopes - I used those a bunch in CDA4, much nicer than hunting around with the mouse, and also because it seems that the "0.0dB" position has some latitude in it and I was never sure if setting the envelope "by hand" I was at truly unity gain (no change to the file) or maybe I was a few hundredths of a dB up or down from zero, not that I would hear the level difference, but quite possibly with some audible effect on the file.
thanks again a whole lot for the responsiveness of the CDA team. One more question, do you envision the product evolving to also support higher-res Audio delivery formats such as DVD Audio, DVD, SACD etc? I know right now it's early but let's not loose sight of the fact that Audio CDs will eventually have to coexist with other formats - it's already happening, albeit slowly - I would love to keep using an evolved CDA for many years to come!
