Can anyone make heads or tails of it?

not very helpful for a first post!

sys specs?

what's on your t/l?

Windows XP home, 4 gigs ddr2 800 ram, quad core processor. Videos on the time line are mostly WMV, MPEG and MPEG-4 files, non-HD. Although I have also had this problem in the past with Mt2 HD files.

Also I have tried re installing Vegas to no avail, then installed the latest update and still get the error.

Vegas 8 build 144 is pretty old. 8.0c is build 260.

Having said that it looks like the Main Concept encoder is having problems.

What changed in your system since this project loaded successfully?

I'd update to 8.0c in any case and see what happens.

You'll need to go to the SONY Archives to get it.

Thanks, Tom. Yeah I have installed the update to 8.0c (build 260) and still having problems. I didn't think I changed much at all on the timeline, added a video or two maybe. Of course this problem is not unique to this project I have been having error issues with vegas for months with all kinds of different videos.

Does Vegas accept MPEG-4 files?
Tom Pauncz wrote on 12/4/2010, 2:58 PM
Yes, of course it does.

Did you recently install any codec packs? There are some that cause issues with Vegas.

Have you searched the SONY Support Knowledge Base?

Hmm, you know, I have installed a codec pack about a year ago and that is around the time when the problems started. Let me try getting rid of the codec pack and I'll see what it does.

Well I uninstalled my codec pack but still got the error :(
Tom Pauncz wrote on 12/4/2010, 3:56 PM
Make sure you take a restore point before you do that. You may have to re-install Vegas. Just saying...

i'm with tom - NEVER install codec packs!!!

unfortunately most of us learnt that the hard way too ;-(

good luck....
95TurboSol wrote on 12/4/2010, 4:08 PM
Reinstalled it last night....
95TurboSol wrote on 12/4/2010, 4:11 PM
I searched the knowledge base and could not find any problems related to codec packs, seems that nobody else is having my issue :(
95TurboSol wrote on 12/4/2010, 4:43 PM
Ok, I have made progress. I deleted the last files I added before the error and found a video that Vegas apparently didn't like very much, got rid of it and it loads. Seems from what I have read from searching this problem online is that the Vegas MC codec is very sensitive to how a video is encoded, even though it was a MPEG-4 file Sonys MC rejected it. I converted the problem file and it has no problems so far.

Next time to see if it will render, the last few videos I have made have gave me a terrible time trying to render them.

Thanks for the help, guys, you've been wonderful.

if your program is lengthy, you could do the workaround that many have found useful when having render problems - ie, render small sections then join them all up.....
Tom Pauncz wrote on 12/4/2010, 4:59 PM
Glad you got going Matt.

Might be fun to try to load that bad file by itself into a fresh project and see what happens. Do you know what created that 'bad' file?
