Analog capture issue

It's not a huge deal as I have a workaround, but it is intriguing. I have a Panasonic Mini DV VCR that we use for capture and analog to DV conversion. Back a few months ago I tried an analog capture for the first time. I got audio but no video. I played with some of the preview settings with no avail. I then figured the video signal coming through my machine probably wasn't up to VV specs.

I then installed and played with the Ulead software that came with the firewire card and had no probs capturing analog through the machine. Looked fantastic and had no problem bringing it into VV3 for editing. The only hitch is that the Ulead software compresses the audio a little differently causing VV to want to make a proxy audio file. This does slow down the rendering, but I get excellent results.

Any idea as to why VV won't see my analog signal? No biggie since I have a workaround, but just curious. Digital captures well, although I'm still chasing down that danged dropped frame issue.

Thanks much!

Which Panasonic deck and how was it connected? I routinely do this with a Panasonic AG-DV2000 and Vegas Video. I just hook the VCR to one of the analog inputs and the computer to the firewire connection. Then, I manually select the input location (the only choices are A1, A2, or Firewire). When A1 or A2 is selected, the signal is routed through the firewire connection to the computer.

I have the DV1000 and it's connected in the way that you mention. The VCR I'm using is kind of old, so it may not pass a good enough signal through the DV deck.
