Can anyone recommend good hardware to convert analog (ie VHS) video into digital. I am hoping to find something that will allow me to keep my VCR connected, and edit the video using Vegas. If anyone has found anything that works well. Please let me know.
Thanks for the direction on this...on further question. Does the Canopus hardware compress the data into MPEG II, or does it create an uncompressed AVI file (or something else for that matter?
You will capture a DV AVI stream with either the Canopus converter or a digital camcorder. This is FAR superior to MPEG. It does take about 225MB per minute, but this is only about 1/5 the size of an uncompressed AVI file. Once you try it, you'll never go back to MPEG for your captures again.
Is that right? I thought the converter was less than half the price of the camera (I assume you're referring to new).
Whatever, either of those rather than a Dazzle Bridge. He'd be better off with a rubber band than a Dazzle Bridge!
Im glad to hear this device works so well with Vegas. Can all of you give me a run down on your configuration and how you have it connected. The capture program in vv3 locks up everytime I use it and I have to do a hard reboot. 100% of the time. I called SoFo and the tech told me as did Canopus that the device is not compliant. It uses the Sony DV cam scheme to output, which is not compliant. So, help me figure this out.
First I would like to thank everyone for their useful suggestions. I think I'm going to pickup the Canopus converter real soon. Just one last queston tho, does anyone know if ADVC-100 can be used to output to the external monitor as well? I think the answer is yet, but would like to confirm. Currently I have to connect my JVC GRDV2000 to the computer via firewire, and then connect the camcorder to the input of the TV. I'm hoping to not have to use my camcorder for this function if I get the Canopus ADVC-100.
