Canopus ADVC-100 is a great choice.

Or for approx the same price you could get a sony d8 cam which does the conversion for you, AND is a camera.

Thanks for the direction on this...on further question. Does the Canopus hardware compress the data into MPEG II, or does it create an uncompressed AVI file (or something else for that matter?
falz wrote on 2/25/2002, 4:25 PM
It naturally compresses it to a native DV format, which is about 3.5mb/sec. NON mpeg. All dv uses this.
Chienworks wrote on 2/25/2002, 4:25 PM
You will capture a DV AVI stream with either the Canopus converter or a digital camcorder. This is FAR superior to MPEG. It does take about 225MB per minute, but this is only about 1/5 the size of an uncompressed AVI file. Once you try it, you'll never go back to MPEG for your captures again.
PeterMac wrote on 2/25/2002, 6:26 PM
Is that right? I thought the converter was less than half the price of the camera (I assume you're referring to new).
Whatever, either of those rather than a Dazzle Bridge. He'd be better off with a rubber band than a Dazzle Bridge!

It is not compliant and wont work with vv3 only with PREMIERE or ULEAD

Mine seems to work better with Vegas than premiere

"vv3 DOESNT support ADVC-100"

This statement is completely untrue. Vegas works GREAT with the Canopus ADVC-100- I use it every day.

G'day,

The Canopus converter which I use works very well with Video Vegas 3.

Im glad to hear this device works so well with Vegas. Can all of you give me a run down on your configuration and how you have it connected. The capture program in vv3 locks up everytime I use it and I have to do a hard reboot. 100% of the time. I called SoFo and the tech told me as did Canopus that the device is not compliant. It uses the Sony DV cam scheme to output, which is not compliant. So, help me figure this out.
SonyEPM wrote on 2/26/2002, 4:21 PM
If you are talking about the Canopus Raptor or DV storm or other Canopus hardware acceleration cards, then no, those will not work with Vegas.

The Canopus ADVC-100 media converter box DOES work with Vegas.
bobmueller wrote on 2/26/2002, 7:35 PM
Why Cant I get mine to work with vv3 ? ADVC 100 . Per my last comment it locks up the capture program everytime.

What brand/model is your 1394 input card? And, does it use a Texas Instruments chip or some other brand?

Im using a DELL Inspiron 8000/800/394/52gig on board and 100gig ext 1394. TI OHCI 1394 compliant card. ME / ADVC 100 to 2nd PCMCIA 1394 ADS card.
bobmueller wrote on 2/26/2002, 10:09 PM
I tried that and it didnt make any diff. Capture program still locks up.
SonyEPM wrote on 2/27/2002, 8:27 AM
BOB M: Are you using the Microsoft DV driver? If not, that could be the problem.
davebreen wrote on 2/27/2002, 11:16 AM
First I would like to thank everyone for their useful suggestions. I think I'm going to pickup the Canopus converter real soon. Just one last queston tho, does anyone know if ADVC-100 can be used to output to the external monitor as well? I think the answer is yet, but would like to confirm. Currently I have to connect my JVC GRDV2000 to the computer via firewire, and then connect the camcorder to the input of the TV. I'm hoping to not have to use my camcorder for this function if I get the Canopus ADVC-100.

"does anyone know if ADVC-100 can be used to output to the external monitor as well"

yes
Wayne wrote on 2/27/2002, 8:04 PM
Yes. That is the main reason I bought a converter. (Canopus ADVC-100)

I am very happy with the unit. Have had no problems capturing, printing or using it with my external monitor.
