anamorphic dvd render

So, I've tried many ways at getting my anamorphic 720x480 shot footage to render properly onto a dvd so that when displayed on a 4:3 screen it triggers the DVD player to letterbox. I know that my DVD player does it because my friend who shot the footage used Cinalerra (sp?) to burn a dvd that does work. I've checked all the boxes for "widescreen" and the best I get is a square with letter and pillarboxing, or 16:9 without the letterboxing, giving me a cropped view. I've just recently started using V6 and DVDA-3. Anyone got answers? Thanks.

I have no answers, but would like to see this question answered. I have the same problem and I'm about ready to jump the DVD-A ship. DVD Studio Pro has a drop-down menu that allows you to choose what kind of source material you're working with. If you set it to 16:9 it does what you describe automatically.

Not so with DVD Architect.

Sony people, please help. I'm using DVD-A 2. No sense in upgrading if they're not going to provide these advanced features.

Thank you.

Figured it out with the help of this post:

My menus are in regular 720x480 format, so I left DVD-A's properties to NTSC (720x480).

It played back on my computer at widescreen and in my dvd player letterboxed.
