That is cuz the WMV is a compressed file. Vegas has to decompress it to play it. If you want to edit then, I recomend re-rendering them as DV AVI's. Then you can edit to your hearts content. :)

The WMV-file probably has a different frame size. The needed scaling to DV size takes time. If you're rendering at "Best quality" and there is scaling involved then it can be quite slow.

The other big problem with WMV files if they were created for streaming is the lack of keyframes. I've had wmv with only one keyframe in 3 hours of video, I had to restream it in WME, adding a keyframe every 2 seconds, then it became editable in Vegas.
