I need some help in coming up with a Map of highways and showing a path of travel(animated) with someother graphics. I hope you understand what I am trying to get at.
Most people seem to want a line left as a trace of where the travel takes them. I think that is unneccessary. The simplest thing to do (in Vegas) is to use a dot (or any other font symbol) in the text generator on a track above the map and move it along with keyframes and pan/crop.
If you are reporting a car journey, add some car sound etc.
This is quick, simple and effective.

If a line on the map isn't important, another method is to use a map, a sheet of thin acetate, a small metal car and a big magnet. With the magnet under the acetate you can move the car all over the map. It looks great. Capture it directly into Vegas with your camera.
Another solution, even easier, is to hot-glue the little car to a thin stick wrapped in blue or green paper and chomakey the car onto the map. We've used this several times to move an arrow around on an illustration, too.
The advantage to both methods is a) they are fast, b) cheap, and c) the three dimensional car, moving on its own, looks really cool! We found several kinds of very small cars, buses and airplanes in a neighborhood toy store (about 3/8" long).
The suggestion about adding car/bus/boat/airplane sound FX is great, too. Haven't tried that, but will next time I have the occasion.
