Animating Still PNGs

I know I've seen questions on this before, but I can't seem to get anything using the search. I'm probably asking wrong, but I'm fed up.
I've exported 1200 still images in PNG format to be animated in Vegas. They were numbered 1 thru 1200 and Vegas can't count without zeros in front, I guess. They sit in the folder in the right order, but as soon as I import them into Vegas, it's all messed up.
Is there a simple solution to getting the images in proper sequence without manually placing each pic in the right order?
If so, then what do I do? I've cut them down to 1 frame each. Do I just re-render to an AVI or do I leave them in the timeline, as they are, and place my lettering over them? They will be rendered to mpg2 SD in the end.
TIA

How about importing them ALL as a "Still Image sequence"? Done.

I don't see that option.
My options for Importing are: Media, AAF, Broadcast Wave, DVD Camcorder Disc, Hard Disc Recording Unit
If I import the pics, the "Open still image sequence" check square is not available. But I can drag the pics into Vegas and when I do, the images are out of sequence. You know, 1, 10,100, 1000, and some numbers in between.

file - import - media

then if there's a range of files it gives you the option of a sequence.

next time get your program to name the correct way & you won't need to import 0-9, 10-99, 100-999, 1000-9999, etc. separately. most aps do it either way if you tell them.

when you drag/drop in to vegas from any source, no matter what you selected, the file you have the mouse pointer over & click+hold, then drag, that file is always first on the TL.

Try the Bulk Rename Utility and see if it'll renumber the files for you .
That will it much easier at import time, otherwise you'll have to import the way HappyFriar described which can be slow and painful :-(

Never had a problem. Click load project media through vegas not explorer window then just click on the first image in your SEQUENCE then click (tick mark appears) beside import as image sequences....Located below the file view and walla done.

I've had great results with CK Rename, free here:

The rename is the best long-term solution. The underlying problem is Windows, which doesn't sort numerically and therefore you have to include the leading zeros (which the rename utilities will add).

Short term solution is to click on the date heading in the Explorer view to sort by date. If the stills were created in chronological order, this will give you the sort you need.
