Animation/ Moving effect in the background

Hi there!

I have a special request and I am no pro in Sony Vegas.

I want for example in such a battle picture:

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schlacht_bei_K%C3%B6niggr%C3%A4tz#/media/File:Schlacht-bei-koeniggraetz-von-georg-bleibtreu.jpg

To have the smoke (maybe even fire) or clouds in the background to move in a loop while it is playing a song. Just a simple movement nothing else. I searched for many tuts but nothing that helped me. What is the best way to make a moving effect or animation for such a case? I have also Photoshop and can separate it into several layers if that helps. The moving part doesn´t have to be the smoke from the picture itself, but maybe an overlayed effect so it looks a little like it is moving, you surely know better. I´d be happy if you can solve my problem or recommend good tutorials.

Thx!

Franz

If you'd mask the sky as layer, combine it with an animated noise texture layer via a mode like bump/height/displacement mapping, you'd get something like this (all done in Vegas Pro):

Another option would be to mask out the clouds, then replace them with a timelapse clip of storm clouds rolling by, then mask out the smoke as well and replace it with a clip of smoke billowing up, maybe add a little red to it to simulate the glow of the flames below.

Hi Marco!

That would be exactly what I need, but I am so nooby that idk how to make it. I made a mask of the sky and now the foreground is black, and added a bump map but it doesn´t move, I have no clue how to animate it :/ Is there a tutorial how to do this?

thx in advance!

Do you understand German?

franz-f wrote on 9/8/2017, 6:51 AM

Hallo Marco!

Marco: Great solution. Nice work.

After some tribulations, I achieved the aim to a great extent. The burning town fascinated me so pressed a mutated lens flare into service! Wonderful!

Wow Ralf the burning effect is great! Can you explain it in detail, I´m still so nooby :/

I think I'll do a tutorial on the process for my YouTube channel. I'll pm you the URL when I post it. I have a dinner engagement this evening but I can do it tomorrow. Fair enough? And thanks for the compliment. I think it turned out fairly well - even though there's always ways to improve the method or workflow.

That sounds great Ralf, maybe u can do the background and fire effect in one vid? I will like it then^^
