Another After Effects Question

Thinking about going with AE but do not care about "creating 2d elements from Hexacons," "Animating Circles, " or "3d" (these are chapters in Classroom in a Book). I want to learn how to apply the hundreds of AE effects to video that I've created in Vegas. Is there a book that just explains efx/plugins and the interface as it relates to this? OR Should I stick with leaning towards Boris 3GL (I've read that it is an AE host)

Lynda.com has very good AE training online for $25/month (includes access to all their training).

Trish and Chris Meyer's books "Creating Motion Graphics with After Effects, Vol. 1 and 2" are very very good and easy to get into, very practical attitude.

Their "After Effects in Production: A Companion for Creating Motion Graphics" book has both tutorials and case studies, and can be used with just Vol. 1 above. It comes with a CD-ROM with project and media files, as well as a bunch of free plug-ins.

Really outstanding books all of them. Top 1% of what is out there in video software training.

I concur with Course on this one. The Meyers books are A-1 top notch for anyone wanting to learn and work with hands on type stuff. Definitely a purchase you will not regret.
