Another Audio question

HI

Sorry, I have been asking a lot of questions lately but I am struggling somewhat. I ahve been reading how important (if not more improtant) the audio is and am trying to get it right.

I have am mp3 (ripped from CD) of one of the dance tracks at the party and it sounds ok when played with Creative Player but is distorted when played on V4 timeline. I also get the same when played in WMP. I note the waveform has very large peaks and troughs so wondered why it would play with distortion in some softwrae but not others.

As it was ripped from an official well-known make of compilation CDs I would expect the quality to be excellent.

ANy takers on this one, please

Cheers

If you have added a lot of EQ boost this can cause the track to distort, as you are effectively turning up the level, albeit at select frequencies. Is the master audio meter peaking in Vegas? If so try turning down the track volume.

Do you have the EQ switched on in WMP?

If you still have the CD, try ripping the track again from within Vegas and see if that works. These are the only things that spring to mind at the moment.

The whole track and not just the section with the FX are distorted.

Good point about the EQ in WMP as resetting that to a flat response there is no distortion and there isn't an EQ option in Creative... I have relaoded the track into C4, though, and still the same result with no FX at all.

Strange I added the same music track to a new track on V4 and no distortion. I deleted the offending event and moved the new one in it's place and the distortion returns.

I can't see any difference between the settings of the two tracks I used. Both were created this evening. So I will delete the old track and continue witha new one. So far so good.

Is it possible that an effect or something else cpould end up hidden in a track?

Cheers
