Another file size question!

I have a sneakin' suspicion that this question has been asked more then once, but why does my media file size mysteriously grow when I import to DVD-A. I render my vid in VV and Explorer claims that the said file is 4.1 gig, but when I import, optimize says the file is 4.6 gig. Is Explorer screwed or is it DVD-A? What gives?

Yes...the question has been answered before.

But in the spirit of the holidays - here is a start down a path you can take to understand what is going on.

Optimize....you can (if you want) optimize the file you have to turn up or down the bit rate. In doing so - your file size will grow/shrink. Granted....it will take a 're-render' but ... there ya go.

Dvda is probably trying to create uncompressed audio, in optimize, make sure to make the audio ac3 stereo.

Well if you have to re-render your Video every time you import it into Sonic..it is one useless program... and is the ONLY authoring program I've seen where you have to do so.

Me thinks you may have mis-understood what I'm saying.

You don't have to re-render your video everytime you import - that is unless it is to large to burn to a DVD otherwise.

There is a 'known issue' (for lack of better words) regarding the calculation stuff - but, I don't seem to have a problem bringing in and burning files that are already in the correct format.

I can do about 2 hours of MPEG2 video in about 20 minutes prepare time and 20 minutes burn....give or take. It's only when the bitrate of my MPEG2 files is too big and Ineed to bring that down - or, of course, I want to add more video....do I need to optimize - but even then, it does't take so much time that it can't be done if I let it do it's thing...go ta bed and it's done in the morning.

But....that's just me.

I have brought in 3 files that each were 1.2 gig.....and never had a problem with files size.

Hope that helps.

Scratch.

Don't worry... just go ahead and make the project.. and you'll be fine.

Had a project... Video 4.1G Audio 200K. Program stated it would be a 4.7G finished project.

It wasn't. Made the DVD... final size was 4.29 Which was just fine for burning.

So don't worry about the estimated size. It can be wrong.
