Another OT... but worth mentioning.

Just thought I'd mention something that we don't always think about.
I recently renewed my home insurance. Even though I've got the best coverage, I thought I'd ask how much I would get if my PC and software were either stolen, burnt, flooded, etc.
To my surprise, my software has a limit of $1000.
So, even though I have all my SoFo apps (latest builds, always) burnt to CD-RW for safe keeping, it occured to me that a smart thief would grab the PC and all the CDs he could find. Same goes for a fire, everything would be lost!
I don't know about you, but I've got way over $1000CAN in SoFo software alone.
So, I think I'll be taking my CD-RWs to work for safe keeping.

Just thought I'd mention this, because I hadn't thought of this before. At least check with your insurance regarding your coverage...you might be surprised.

True enough about the registration...hadn't thought of that. I could just contact SoFo and re-install all my stuff. However, I was also thinking of all my SoFo loop CDs (over $1000Can) and also the free stuff that I won't be able to get back, such as 8-Packs for Acid.

Good idea about offsite for home computer.

Did you take your video camera and video the valuables and some unreplaceable
items? Get serial numbers, etc and place them in your bank safety deposit box
as a DVD will fit nicely (esp when placed in a Clamshell type case) in most boxes.

Ask your insurance agent how much extra premium to insure for actual software purchase value, through a rider endorsement. It may be small enough you don't mind paying.

One other pitfall - if you are using your rig to earn money, make sure your insurance doesn't have a business exclusion.
