Another question (I'm full of them today :-)

OK - while I have one copy of Vegas rendering prior to printing to tape, I'm working on the next project in another copy (I'm assuming that when it is actually printing to tape I shouldn't work on the other project in case it disrupts the transfer?)

Anyway - whenever I select project 2 it sits there with an hourglass for at least two minutes before I can do anything. Nothing has changed, there are only 12 events on the timeline at the moment, it doesn't appear to be building audio peaks or creating thumbnails as the project has remained open for over a day now. If I hit save, it will save the project in a matter of a second so it can't be doing a backup save. So what is it doing and how do I stop it?

The project has 1350 clips in its media pool but only 12 on the timeline so far.

Cheers

That and the fact that you have a second project rendering could definitely be the problem. 1350 is a LOT of clips that it has to rebuild every time.

But surely it doesn't have to rebuild them? I haven't closed the project, all I'm doing is Alt-Tabbing away from that project and back to it... you can only see 6 clips in the media pool sub-bin that is selected ...

There would appear to be plenty of RAM left - system is a PIV 2.8 running under Win2K with HT switched on (for what it's worth in 2K) with 1 Gig RAM and 800 Gig in 2 x 2 ATA Raid0s

Just out of interest, I stopped the other project rendering (it was just a pre-render prior to dump so will pick it up again OK) and it makes no difference - the other project still takes ages to become available. Doesn't matter what I switch away to or for how long ...

Be default, Vegas releases all files upon losing focus and has to reattach them upon gaining focus. It's an option in the Option - Preferences box. Try unchecking the "Close media files when not the active application" option.

That's the one!

God I love this forum :-)

Thanks for that.
