You are using a firewire cable and not a USB cable, correct?
If so, trying a different cable is the first thing to try.

Yes, I tried another firewire cable today, and it didnt help.

But tonight the following thing happened. I turned off my intel gigabit network connection in the device manager, then I restarted, and before my mLan driver (a driver for my firewire soundcard) turned on, I turned on my JVC and windows asked me how I would like to capture my videos. And I did it again this way, and it worked again! But not for the 3rd, 4th and 5th time. I dont get it!! How is this possible??

I have a 4-pin firewire at the front of my computer and a 6-pin (to the Camera's 4-pin) in back. The front firewire works when it decides to. The back 6-pin works all the time (Sony-PC-Intel). Nothing I do makes any difference.

I use an M-Audio soundcard on my machines at work and it has firewire conflicts with other devices.
The solution was to add a 2nd firewire card to the computer.
No more problems :-)
