Another workflow question...

Hi,

I am getting to know Vegas more and more, and like it a lot so far. I have bought the VTC training CD's and they are great too.

I have 2 questions for workflow.
I used to work in another NLE where I, if I had one file with 60 min. footage, took it to the sourceviewer, marked a lot of in- and outpoints and then send the clip in between to the limeline each time I had made the marks. That would give a lot of small subclips after one another on the timeline.

What would be the best way to do in Vegas 7? I can put the whole clip on the timeline, cut it where I want and use the 'ripple' function to take the spaces where I take footage out away. I can also take the clip into the trimmer and make I's and O's there and send the subclip to the timeline.

Is there er third way or fourth way too, and which do you consider the best?

Question 2: is there a shortcut to goto start / end of an event?

T.i.a.

Those are the only two ways I know of. If I’m shooting an event that is long (i.e., a play) then I use the timeline method because I’m just cutting out a few things to tighten it up. If the footage is has less useful scenes then I’ll use the trimmer to make subclips. I have a windows layout just for this. It has the trimmer across the entire top of the layout with the timeline across the bottom. I keep my preview window on my secondary display.

Yes, use ‘[‘ and ‘]’. The [ key goes to the start and the ] key goes to the end.

A third way might be to use the Trimmer to set a Region for each part of the video you want to use. Save the Regions. Now you can access the Regions just like single clips from the Vegas Explorer when using the Region View.

I'm a timeline/split/ripple editor. I've never used the trimmer in 3+ years.

Hi,

I actually found out that you can move to start and end of an event by pressing CTR+ALT + left/right arrow just read that in mu old ver. 6 manual.

Ulf, checkout the numeric keypad. Not, the number keys above the letters. Now hit 7 or 9
