Anti-Blockiness Filter?

It looks like I've got to assemble a series of clips from various sources, including some Windows Media clips (egads). The resolution is OK, 720×576, but the video is fairly blocky in parts to say the least.

Has anyone tried to clean up similar artifacts? There are a few filters for freeware applications such as VirtualDub but I'd like to try to do everything in Vegas.

Thanks!

You might get some use out of Motion Blur, fixes many things.

Add a MB envelope in the Video Buss Master track, dial in a few frames worth just where you have the issue(s). Try changing the type of MB in Project Properties as well.

Try MSU deblocker.

You can also try making the video smaller, and putting other elements around it?? (Y'know, cheat a little!)

I recently used some wmv and mpg files on the timeline and had great luck with gaussian blur, about .002 or .003.

Thanks guys. Motion blur in Vegas looked OK in preview, but on-screen it added, well, motion blur, and it just gave the video that unnatural "cleaned up" look and in some cases was more obvious than the macroblocks it was intended to cure.

I'd seen the MSU deblocker previously so tried that in VirtualDub (I suppose in theory it could be frame-served to Vegas but it's very slow). The results, given careful tweaking of the settings, are very good indeed. The clip I was using started with a girl in a red dress, it was covered in macroblocks. After processing it looks as clean as a whistle without any softening of detail. What more do you want from a free plug-in. :-)
