Haven't heard of image stabilization in VV. There are some plugins around, but you have to pay for them. The freeware Icarus application has a stabilizer with some really neat geometric modeling functions -- http://aig.cs.man.ac.uk/icarus/

Hi Toxic,

You might check-out SteadyHand by Dynapel (www.dynapel.com). They have a downloadable demo.

I think it works great. Saved me a ton of time and frustration.

I also recommend SteadHand. You should be aware that NONE of the stabilizers are perfect for all things. Do a SEARCH on SteadyHand and Steady Hand on this forum and you will find quite a bit of discussion.

I like Steadyhand too, but it has a problem when a camera flash goes off. For some reason Steadyhand freaks out and the video goes wacko for a few seconds.

I agree that the Icarus free (for home use)program to be found at http://aig.cs.man.ac.uk/icarus/index.php is great. It also has a beta segment that allows you to create travelling mattes

Note:
SteadyHand has now added a batch mode. Can be very useful.

For future reference: I'm a "jiggler" too (short-film writer and director but ignorant of camera technicalities), and my DP showed me the 'poor man's Steadicam,' which is to fold out the view screen (or turn the eyepiece up), and brace the back of the camera against your chest, supported underneath by one hand. Takes out about 75% of the jiggle if you're not breathing hard...

Yeah and when you move the camera, walk like Groucho!
