create reliable 3x dvd's in the AVCHD format?

I'm thinking if it does then I may just pick up a copy and give it a shot.

There seems to be a claim on the ulead board that it can in fact do this... and I'm just looking for confirmation

No. I wish it did. Hopefully they will add that at some point in the near future because it is an option in the 3x DVD specification.

Doing this would allow us to render one AVCHD version of a project and create both both HD DVD and Bluray compatible discs. It would be way cool!

That's what I was thinking... both formats read avchd from red laser disks. If you could create a avchd disk that could be read by both machines, then it wouldn't matter what format you went with.

Well the formatting and placement of the AVCHD data will still be different. I was thinking mostly in terms of render time and consistency between versions.
