Any comments about Sony's DRX-500UL?

Looking to purchase a DVD recorder/player. Eyeing Sony's DRX-500UL because of it's ability to record on DVD+RW/+R and DVD-RW/R media. I've read the specs on Sony's web-site regarding this device. Would like some imput from people who's had "hand's on" experience or at least has more computer-based video editing experience than me. (Yeppers. . . I'm new to the DV end of things!)

Of course, I'm using Sonic Foundry's Vegas Video 3! Hopefully it will work with the DRX-500UL.

Thank you ahead of time for your imput.

If this is the same as the 500a, then do a search on this site for that (500a) and you will find quite a bid. Go to the top of this screen and look for the word SEARCH.

The DRX-500UL is the USB/Firewire version of the internal DRU-500A drive. There have been quite a few posts re: the DRU-500A lately. Search the VV3 forum for that model.

I bought this direct from Sony in late November (No Tax, Free shipping). After consulting this forum about how to actually take an existing VV project and burn it as a DVD, I had no problems. It records on all the media I've tried (+/- R; +/- RW) as advertised. One of the nicest things about DVD is the amount of space for data storage - 4.7.Gb! I was able to store ALL my digital photos and scanned photos on one disc with room left over.
