Any guesses at when the new Sony web site will debut?

Does anyone want to make an educated guess (or even an uneducated guess) at when the new web site might come out? And then the following transfer of the forums to that site?

The FAQ says in the coming months, Sony Pictures Digital will be launching a new website for the Sony Pictures Digital Media Software line.

I'm just curious. It should be cool.

Whatever they do, i hope they let Kevin St.Angel stay on the job. SonicFoundry's website is sooooooo much easier to get around in than Sony's. Functionality and ease of use is much more important than big flashy graphics.

Definitely agree with Kelly!

Ditto that --- this forum, and the SoFo website in general, is the only one I participate in that doesn't give me queasy feelings of apprehension every time I get ready to access it.
I tried to find stuff on a Sony website before (info about batteries, & stuff for my Sony dvd camcorder), and it was a painful experience.

I presume that you are talking about www.sony.com, which leads to the US site. That is one of the worst organized, flashy, off-putting messes I have ever had to search. Don't those people plan ahead? Nothing even looks like it fits with anything else.

I, too, dread having to look for anything on that site. Hard as heck to find what you want, and in a month it may be gone for good, or just in a different place.

Prices don't appear, or they don't agree with each other in different places on the site. NO Planning. And just TRY to find something about a product that is only one year out of date.

As far as I am concerned, they can just leave this site on line and as is forever. This is the most functional piece of forum software I have ever encountered.

I LIKE IT, Sony! Leave it alone.

I love Sony products so I have nothing to say about their TV's, Video Cameras and all that. Sony has a real problem in my opinion with software and communication (even though their hardware support is legendary..) They can learn a lot from the Sonic Foundry folks... Let's hope they buy the 'whole package'! This is a time to LEARN SONY!

Sony US is not who bought the Sofo A/V software collection. It's Sony Pictures Digital. Here is there URL
http://www.sonypicturesdigital.com
As to what might become of this site we know and love, time will tell. First signs don't look great. Go up to products on the top left of this page and select screen blast movie studio. Notice do demo download, or any download for that matter. It bounces you to buying Vegas. (Note to Sofo web guy) Screenblast Acid 4.0 does have a download that that looks like it will work, but still do demo. Hmmmm

I almost thought it was today - for about an hour I could not get to the forums or the SoFo site overall. All I got was one of those MS server error pages that you get when "The page you requested does not exist." But all is well now so I dunno what happened. By the way - the "sony" software demos are on the SoFo site for download now...which freaked me out even more. But you can't put it off for ever I guess, slowly the Sony creeper will be slithering into SoFo land leaving a slimy trail behind it.

Chienworks, I hate going to Sony's site for that very reason!

Hey - has anyone noticed the changes to SoFo's site? And to the product line? main page still has links to VV+DVD but if you want info here is what you get:

"Sorry, Sonic Foundry no longer sells Vegas+DVD."

However as most people know for under $100 you can get "Sony Screenblast Movie Studio" that has "Integrated DVD authoring software — Includes over 40 DVD menu templates from the Sony Pictures Digital Authoring Center."

There isn't any product link to "DVD Architect 1.0" but it is still on the download page. Changes a brewing.

Filmy,

Vegas+DVD is for sale and everything should be okay. It was a mistake that Vegas+DVD got yanked and thanks to you it was short lived.

I'm glad you found that,

Suzan

Hey Suzan, is it just luck that your username could mean Sonic/Sony Customer Service (SonicSCS)? :) Also, could the comparisons with other products be improved for the Screenblsat products? They aren't very informational.

Wow - did my posts and questions cause a massive backlash against Sony? Gee I feel special. :)

It's kind of like that one Simpsons episode where Marge takes on Itchy and Scratchy

"The screwballs have spoken!"

I would have to say if www.sonypicturesdigital.com is going to be the website we will be using, they are going to need some major reworking. Right now it looks like it is nothing but a news site for the latest movies/tv/games. I guess our stuff could be a part of the Digital Entertainment section, but I hope the media creation softwares get their own section for support and such. Possibly it would even be good to have the promo section completely separate. From the way the site looks now, no one would expect information for the work related side of software.

There is a site for Screenblast (www.screenblast.com) but it's graphics/flash heave and I gave up on loading it up after 10 minutes. If the forums turned onto something like that I have a feeling some people with dial-up would stop showing up.
Chienworks wrote on 9/6/2003, 8:58 AM
TheHappyFriar, i'm on 2.4Mbps broadband and i would stop showing up in the forums if that happened. The value of this forum is the information it contains, and that information is written text. True, some of us occasionally post links to pictures illustrating topics now and then, but this is a rare exception. Also, since the pictures are outside the forum, those who don't want to download them don't have to. This forum would not be enchanced by flash or graphical buttons, rather it would be a major detraction.
DataMeister wrote on 9/6/2003, 11:37 AM
Cheinworks,

I agree. I like this forum much better than those with all kinds of icons and fancy buttons. That kind of stuff doesn't help the conversations one bit and usually just makes the page look cluttered.

Don't need fancy buttons and jumping graphics. WOULD be nice if WE could upload images to the forum. A screen shot of a problem or tip is worth a 1,000 words.
