Any Other Options?

Im reading alot of horror stories regrading mixed format editing and Im feeling the pain too.

Im almost convinced to try another platform that has some kind of hardware acceleration -- are any worthwhile that dont cost 50k??

Im thinking I can spend 5k on a new super computer for vegas - with no guarantees.... or take that 5 elsewhere...does that make any sense?

What do you mean by platform? .. Another NLE? .. And by hardware acceleration do you mean using Video Card GPU acceleration for preview and rendering? If so I wouldn't know which NLE's might do this. Vegas doesn't. But if your feeling is that your current CPU is too slow for V9 64 bit -- you don't need to spend 5k to get up to speed. Far less. Especially if you build it. Many recommendations if you search the forum. But maybe I'm missing the point on "mixed format editing"..

Good advice there. Other NLEs seem to kind of force this workflow on you and it's not a bad concept, get all your ducks in a line before you start.
I find I can edit HDV reasonably well with V9.0c. Same goes for XDCAM EX. Mixing the two on the one timeline is not too pleasant. Depending on project settings one or the other will playout smoothly but I cannot find a compromise where both will.

"the avchd i encode to mxf which works well."

how do you do that?
JHendrix wrote on 12/19/2009, 5:55 PM
formats (about an 8 hours timeline if it were laid out consecutive);

HVX200 > P2/MXF 30 FPS 1280X720
XHA1 > HDV/M2T 30 FPS 1440x1080
HFS11 > AVCHD/MTS 30 FPS 1920x1080

If anyone has ALL of these formats please tell me how you are making it work, Im willing to invest in upgrades or just plain ol tweaking but Im at quite a loss trying to get moving with this. All I keep reading is even if you go with cineform (which I own) its still a bug fest

there's a number of plugin type batch converters - however, i simply dump all my footage (eg avchd) on the t/l then render out to mxf.

how nifty...i choose mxf in render dialog and get this:

but that was using the P2 Localized format.

I assume then you meant Sony MXF

is there a quality loss? I dont see any

This DLL probably does not install with Vegas 9. At least I don't have it on my system. I googled MSVCR90 and found it was part of something called Microsoft Visual Studio. Just a guess, but this may be a conflict with Vegas.
