Any safe way to up-res video

Anyway to up-res video and maintain quality? I have a client that still wants me to go from 352x240 to DV or at the very least 640x464. Without the risk of starting another 100+ thread on video supersampling, anyone have any suggestions? I do know their intended delivery format is 640x464 using windows media 9.

Thanks.

No matter what, it will look like 352x240, but with more pixels. But, converting it to DV (or DVCPro, or something along those lines) will make you loose less while you're editing.

I thought I read on a thread recently about using vritual dub and a plugin and increasing 20% etc...but I cant seem to find it. I guess the client is SOL.

File under Rube Goldberg type tricks... but if you got a lot of time to mess around you can try a varation on a old Photoshop trick.

Start by rendering to a uncompress AVI at 352x240 so you don't introduce artifacts by recompressing several generations of MPEG's.

Take the file created using it as the source making the next file at a higher frame size, then repeat the process several more times until you have upsized to your desired final frame size. Try just a few seconds as an experiment to see if it helps or not. BE SURE to keep the aspect ratio correct as you go.

The advantage of doing it this way in smaller steps rather than all at once is you're forcing resamplling muptile times which should impact a different number and selection of pixels with each generation. You may want to tweak each version as you go using the blur and/or sharpen and convolution filters.

Thanks BillyBoy. Trying it now.

Download the demo of PhotoZoom Pro and see if it does what you want.

PhotoZoom is a photo up-rezzing tool, but the "pro" version allows you to batch-process files, so you can output a series of stills, batch-process them in PhotoZoom, and then re-import the stills.

I used it to up-res DVX footage to HD resolution and it worked surprisingly well.

Product used to be called S-Spline Pro.
