I just discovered slow motion and fast motion. Is there any other effects anyone can suggest ?I am doing a highlight film of my kids high school lacrosse season. Thanks
Yes! As few as possible. None is always a good number of special effects to include in your video. As much fun as you may have playing with effects during the editing process, they do tend to bore or annoy your audience if they are overdone. Make sure there's a reason why each particular effect enhances the viewing experience or highlights something meaningful in the video. A nice slow motion shot of the opposing team's goalie (are there goalies in lacrosse? i wouldn't know) missing the ball so your team wins by one point at the last second is interesting. Slow motion of a regular play will drag the action interminably and your audience will wish they were watching something else.
Vegas Studio has many many effects available. Play around with them and see what catches your eye. Then before using each one pause for a few moments to decide if it helps explain the action on the screen or is merely visual fluff. If it's fluff, don't put it it.
I agree 100% with chien. A good way to think about it is to imagine that every special effect or flashy transition you use is like poking your viewer in the ribs with your elbow and saying "watch this." Once or twice may be ok. More than that and you just become annoying.
I also use the same rule for italics, bold, and exclamation points when writing.
thanks for your thoughts. it was about 2 weeks ago and $ 1000.00 in equipment for 2 kids that I knew nothing about lacroose, yes there is a goalie. Right now I am just copying all the goals and some good saves by our goalie and you are right not to over do with effects. Its an exciting game but watching it on video not too exciting. The football highlight film was much easier. thanks
