Any word on VV3.0a Update?

CAPNDigital wrote on 2/4/2002, 11:43 AM
Sonic Foundry,

I was curious to know if any new tentative date has been set for the forthcoming Vegas Video 3.0a Update that has been mentioned several times. Originally it was slated for "late January" according to the technicians posting on this forum. Also, will an e-mail be sent to registered users notifying them of the newest update when it is available. The recent Sound Forge (XP) 5.0f update almost went unnoticed except for a quick browse of the SF forum with a post by MacMoney...

Thanks for a great product and any future info...

Yes...please let us know. What's the new ETA?
CDM wrote on 2/5/2002, 10:44 AM
Are there specific bugs that you're looking to have fixed? I hope you're not expecting any new features, because as has been extensively discussed, that ain't going to happen until the next "real" update which will be some kind of merger between Vegas Audio and Vegas Video. No ETA on that, and I wouldn't expect it anytime soon. So, if you're looking for specific bug fixes, fine. Just checking...

cdm

p.s. if you ARE looking for specific fixes, what are they? I haven't come across very much...

I'd like to see the bug fixed that causes the media pool to crash if it is set for thumbnails and you have mpeg2 clips included.

Using VV3, I'm having trouble with the Capture utility bringing in my DV files as 32K for the audio rather than 48K. I've tried capturing the same tape and same camera (Canon XL1s) using another capture utility, and it correctly grabs the file at 48K. Every utility I use to tell me the properties of the video file captured using VV3 tells me 32K. Whether it is really 32K or 48K, a bug exists in that it says 32K when it shouldn't be. That's the fix I'm looking for.

pray tell, where did you get the 3.0a update?
PolHarris wrote on 2/5/2002, 1:58 PM
Yes....it isn't yet posted in the "update" section...where did you find it?
SonyEPM wrote on 2/5/2002, 2:42 PM
The build that Ramallo refers to (84) was inadvertently left on one of our public ftp servers (by me), clearly listed as a beta. This was an unreleased test build and is no longer available. Word of this beta build got posted on this forum and a few users on grabbed it before we could take it down. If you installed this beta build, you do so at your own risk...I strongly suggest you completely uninstall this build and revert to the released version, since there ARE BUGS that are not in the shipping version.

The update is not too far off. I apologize for saying that we would release by the end of January. The update is being tested now and will address many issues reported on these forums.

Also, please be aware that VV 3.0a is a bug-fix only update. There are not going to be a pile of new features of any kind in this update, despite some rumors to the contrary.

Ability to work with Plextor drives would be a start!
Ability to work with multiclient M-Audio drivers would be a bonus!
(Guess what CDRW and Audio card I have?...)

Thanks for the update news SonicEPM. (Email notification?????)

I figured mentioning the update again on the message board would once again "open a can of worms."

I have only encountered one "issue" with VV3 thus far, my Iomega ZipCD 650 USB cd-burner doesn't fare well with any attempts to burn cd's thru the Vegas Video interface. I am using WinME (an O/S I have personally never had any problems with. According to the Knowledge Base VV3 supports USB burners, just not under WinXP (at this time). Not a major concern for me - but it would be nice to gain this functionality. My burner operates fine with other software (EZCD Platinum most notably) so I presume my drive is okay. It's no major setback in any event...
Otherwise, I have been very pleased with the first release of VV3 and I can certainly hold out a little longer for any update patches. Knowing that the updates are as rock solid as the base programs (at least in all of my Sonic Foundry experiences: Acid Pro, Sound Forge XP5.0, Vegas AudioLE and Vegas Video 3).
I know some individuals may encounter "problems" with software but as for me, I am very satisfied thus far - count me as an avid Sonic Foundry supporter - now and in the future.

Hi Cap,

I couldn't pass up commenting on your statement about being and "Avid Sonic Foundry User". It sounded a bit like a competitive oxymoron to me...

Hello,

Yes, I tried this release and is very buggy, don't recognize the firewire card, I had two crases when import a files to an audio projet, and the old trouble with the Waves plugins reappear, jerkly playback (any time, rare) when use Waves trueverb.

To SonicEPM, why I don't see the text of my previous post on this tread?.

Thanks

Bye

I'm having trouble with the Capture utility bringing in my DV files as 32K for the audio rather than 48K. I've tried capturing the same tape and same camera (Canon XL1s) using another capture utility, and it correctly grabs the file at 48K.
-----------------------------
I've found that VidCap is set up for 44.1 K sample rate in the hidden prefs area. I switched mine to 48K, just because that is what DV is. Might give it a try. ***Caution when messing with things in this area.
Select the options menu. Hold down the shift key while you click of prefs. Select the Internal tab. Scroll down to "Default Sample Rate" and make your change in the Value colum.
Hope that does it for you.
Anybody at S.F. want to comment on why it is set to 44.1K as default? Is it cool to run it at 48K for DV capture?

Are you talking about the prefs in VV3? The vidcap has no prefs for what it captures.
-------------------------
VidCap does have an internal prefs area. Don't know how it affects the captures. Must be a reason for it to be there. SF, whats the low down on this?

Hi Craig.

Thanks for the reply and the info on the new menu. I did take a look at it and my sample rate in this menu is set to 44.1K. Since I'm capturing at 32K instead of either 48K or 44.1K, I figure there might be something else wrong. Rather than tinker with it, I'll wait until the VV3 update and see how that goes.

I appreciate your feedback though.

Take care,
Ron

Thanks for the info about 3.0a. Is there any projected time frame for the next feature upgrade, specifically one that will have new audio enhancements? The Vegas Audio users were told a few weeks back that this next update would have new audio features but now that we're finding out that this isn't the case (i.e. it's only a bug fix release), I think it would be very helpful for us to have at least a general ballpark time frame. 2nd quarter, 6 months, longer?

This isn't trivial for many Vegas Audio users: I know that I for one am willing to wait if Vegas can deliver the specific features that I'm looking for but I need to have a sense of just how long it might be before I even find out...

Thanks!

Hey RevF -
I just fixed my Plextor problem by switching the order of devices in the SCSI chain. Is yours SCSI? Also, I have the Delta 1010 and the drivers work flawlessly in win2k and winXP. What problem are you seeing?

VV3 will not work yet in disc at once mode with the 24X Plextor EIDE CDRW.
As I bought VV3 for the CDA functionality - this makes it pretty useless.
With the 1010 in 98SE, The newer multi-client driver crackles in VV3. The old one is OK though. I'm surprised you have been OK with the 1010 in Win2K - other guys on the list have had a lot of trouble.
