I use the Avelink/JVC players to play m2t files on standard and dual layer discs. I'm waiting for the holographic stuff in 2007. But it might be a long wait. I just saw a new Samsung 40" LCD HDTV 1080P in Best Buy today for $3,300.00 that peaked my interest more than the Bluray, but then again I don't hesitate to buy new toys.
After looking at the specs I don't think the Samsung is 1080P.

Yep; you can get blank Blu-Ray media, but at $18.50/disk or higher, I think I'll wait a bit.

Can the Avelink/JVC player play HD from an external USB hard drive? It looks like it should.

Laurence:
Haven't tried it yet but I frequently play from the USB external drives to the computer with Nero player and Media player. I have played the Microsoft demo HD WMV files over the network with the JVC. It will not play wmv files with some of the Vegas codings however. This is all 720P and 1080I but not 1080P. I am rendering now but I will try playing the m2t files from the USB external drives to the computer as I can't remember if I did that before.

I remember reading the specs for the Avelink/JVC players and it saying m2t playback but 720p only, not 1080i. Is this still the case?

Thanks

Well local Sony have the drives, comes with Cyberlink for authoring a BDAV Disk (whatever that is, sounds like a disk with no menus).
Drives are $1,400, 25GB media, $34.95. No mention of DL disks.

Those are AUD prices.

That makes bytes on BD 6x the price of conventional DVDs.

I know that it is possible to burn a HD-DVD compatible disc using a standard DVD-R. People are already doing just that. Hopefully it will be possible to do the same thing with BlueRay.

The m2t files do not play very well from the external USB drive with 1080i
created from V6d.Used Nero and Media player. Nero---intermittant sound with stable but pixelated video on fast changes, Media player---intermitant video but sound ok.

Thanks. That's exactly what I wanted to know. How is it with 720p files using the same setup?
