Is that it Leslie? Do you have any experience or knowledge? Keeping options open.

Initially, my head was "turned" by the 1" sensor with the widest of wide down to 24mm with 20x zoom. However, read deeper and it uses 4:2:0 whilst my Canon 300XF is 4:2:2 .... hmmm. The 4K is only 24p although there is a plethora of formats at sub 4K.

Interesting to see if Canon will increase the CMOS while retaining both colour space and zoom.

unfortunately, yes. i was more curious as to why you were looking for an alternative to your 300?

from my brief encounters with panny's in the past (all hd only), i've never liked their out of the box colour rendition - hence my preference for sony.

Do you have any experience or knowledge?

i've done a little research regarding 4k, but not enough to voice any opinion worth noting. as it is i have yet to have any need for it other than perhaps reframing...

Thanks for shedding some of your hard won experience onto this

As Canon won't, or appear not to be updating my XF form factor, and their pursuance of the other form factors, I'm scanning the horizon for a potential upgrade pathway. Presently there appears to be a "hard stop" or physics brick-wall.

i suspect that dslr's such as the gh5 and ar7, and now the a9 are proving a 'distraction' to the major players. of course, none of these is a 'practical' match for a dedicated video camera, such as your 300 or my ex1, (sony did bring out the x150 but since there's very little difference in pic quality at hd res i'm not interested).

my thoughts, for what they're worth, is that IF i do look at 4k it'll be spending more than i'd like on a 'next' level camera (such as f5 / f7 / f700) and compromising with the glass - that's AFTER i worked out what it'd cost to pimp out an ar7 with the full megillah. either way, it isn't going to be cheap.

btw. what truly pisses me off is the lack sampling detail in any of the specs from most manufacturers, or that you really have to dig around for them as you noted.
