Anybody have experience with intercoms?

Went to a wedding last weekend and noted that the two videographers communicated with each other via an "Eartec" wireless intercom system. Apparently the system doesn't require any button-pressing as there are two channels used, so both boom-mounted mics are always on.

I visited the website and a two-unit setup is about $300, plus the units looked a little cheezy (and used Nicad rechargables!). Are there other suitable wireless intercoms out there that work well?

Clear-com (www.clearcom.com) makes an excellent system, but is very expensive. I've used Clear-com wireless systems inside large buildings where users are out of sight of each other with no interference or drop out.

Check out:

www.bswonline.com

They handle quite a few items of interest in audioland, including wireless intercoms and IFB. I don't see exactly what you are looking for on the website at the moment, but I have seen them in the past - they carry additional product lines not shown, so you might want to give them a call as well. I deal with a great sales guy there - Steve Thomas - and buy quite a bit of audio gear for our TV station through him.
