I bought and used a nanokontrol for awhile. It worked really well. Now I've got the sliders and knobs integrated into my MIDI keyboard so I use that (Roland A800 Pro). But the nano worked great with Vegas.

Did you sell your Nanokontrol? Or do you want to?

Hi Dave - I returned it to the store (Guitar Center) sorry. Once I saw that the Roland A-800Pro would do what the NanoKontrol and the NanoPad did, I just returned them. Also the NanoPad drum pads were a bit glitchy and I returned it as well.

Best of luck!

Thanks for responding. I saw them on the guitar center site and I have one near me.

Take care.

I know this is an old thread, but I've been researching using the KORG nanoKONTROL2 with Vegas Pro 12 and thought others might appreciate what I've found.

I used the above mentioned config and it did work, though I also had the problem of having to yank the sliders around so they'd be seen. For me, it wasn't just at the start, but any time I changed tracks.

I noticed the controller had different startup modes, includes a couple of Mackie Control modes for some DAWS. Long story short, Vegas will let you emulate the Korg as a mackie. Not only does it solve the slider problem, but the buttons light up. For example, when I start Vegas and audio track 1 is muted, the "M" button lights up. Same with all the other buttons that can light up. With the sliders, now when you start moving it, the software just jumps to it's current setting.
The only issue I haven't figured out is how to use the sliders with automation, such as latch/touch. The sliders still adjust the volume, but do not move the slider in Vegas, nor sets points in the automation.

Here's what I *think* I did. Since I was poking and prodding it for a while, I'm hesitant to undo it all :)

First, you need to set your KONTROL2 to be in Control Mode "Digital Performer". This can be done through the Korg Kontrol Editor. Also set the LED mode to external - this seems to be what sets up the button lights to work.

Start Vegas. Go to Options/Preferences.
In the MIDI tab, make sure you've got your KONTROl2 checked for both in and out.
In the External control & automation tab, In the available devices drop down, select Mackie Control, then click add. It will add the device, showing it as not found. Right click on new Mackie Device and select configure. A new dialog box will come up.
Under device type, select Emulate Mackie Control Device 1.
Under MIDI input and output select your KONTROL2 device.
Click Close, which takes you back to preferences. Click Ok.
Under the options menu, make sure External Control is checked.
That's it.
Most all controls should work.

If anyone figures out how to use the sliders for automation, please let me know and/or post here.

Richard.

Richard,

I have been using mine with Vegas, but like you said, it is hit and miss sometimes. I used it with Pro Tools and there is a big difference in the response.

In the setup I have now, I can get the latches to work, there are two things you have to do, but it has been a while so I will need to play with it a bit and see. In the meantime, I am going to try your setup.

I will post back with my results.

edit: I think I have the Korg Kontrol 1 and not 2, so I don't see these options. Darn.

Thanks

As far as automation mode, I am using my Nanokontrol as a generic midi controller. It is not great, but it works.

But there is a setting in the controller that turns automation off and on. It is different than enabling the channel latch.

If you can find that, you can make it work by assigning those to a button you are not using.

I also just discovered how to make the buttons nets to the faders light up and off to show the status of mute and solo.

Dave, after posting earlier, I did do some more research and as you said, I needed the controller to turn 'automation' off and on., I wanted to use the 'cycle' or 'set' button, since I don't really use those, but couldn't figure it out, so I ended up setting the 'record' button to toggle automation. Works pretty good, and luckily I don't record start into Vegas (Murphy's law I'm sure will get involved and I'll need it soon :) ).

Thanks,
Richard.
