Anyone here with a Matrox G550 dualhead video card ?

Hello,
I'm with a Matrox G550 video card and I have these configuration:

--> VGA1: TFT monitor
--> VGA2: matrox VGA to S-Video cable connected to a TV using a S-video cable

I would like to use the TV as a client monitor to check my work but it doesn't work well. When I open Avid/Vegas/windows media player... and hit PLAY the TV shows only a freeze black and white frame and nothing else happens ! What's wrong with this configuration ?

I have tried everything and I just can't make the G550 output a TV signal out via S-video. All I get is a "badly tuned" black and white frame. No motion, no color. Like an interference signal.

The G550 is truly outputing a signal because when I hit play I can see "something" on TV.I tried all the possible configurations about dual head, TV out etc, but no luck.

Any ideas ??

Thanks !

Robert.

Even when you get it figured out, chances are you wont like the picture. Tried the s video out for preview a while back . Firewire out to a converter then s video to a tv /monitor,, much, much better picture

(Sorry cant help you with your configuration)

I have on Matrox G550 Millennium card installed on THIS system. The card has two outputs and can support traditional and digital out. I don't have the TV out version.

Vegas does NOT support playing the timline preview other than by feeding through a firewire card. Generally when you want a TV signal if you card supports it, you need to change back and forth from Windows Control Panel or from the video card's control center. I had a card like that in the distant past.

For your information Matrox has a nice forum going. You can enroll from their web site. They also have 'live tech' when with a little luck you may get more or less online instant feedback from one of their techs as opposed to talking on the phone.

I have an older Matrox G400 with TV out... but I don't use it , because it only shows on my Tv with vagas when I have a fully rendered file.. But I got around this by connecting my AV out from my Cannon to a Av input on the Tv and now when ever I scrub or preview the timline it shows on my Tv...

You cant use the VGA out to a NON progressive TV.

If you are unsure if you TV is progressive, then it most likely isnt, as these TV cost a fair bit more - eg SD/HD digital TV monitors, and will have a YPP and/or a vga connection on them.

For display on a regular interlaced TV you must output a PAL signal to a PAL tv or NTSC to NTSc, you must output an interlaced signal to an interalced tv, progressive to pgressive etc - use the TV out if your card has it, most vid cards struggle to do 50/60hz interlaced.

for acquisition not preview. You can use analog capture cards that conform to the VfW (possibly directly to the WDM spec) in Vegas.
