Anyone in Austin using DVDA ???

MUTTLEY wrote on 5/17/2004, 11:08 PM
Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Got a project all ready authored and ready to go in DVDA 2, but for whatever reason cant get it to burn:

DVDA Forum Post

With no immediate solution forthcoming I have to get this DVD off to get duplicated A.S.A.P. I have an external USB 2.0 drive and I believe I can use the " Save Media " option in DVDA to save the whole DVD media onto it and just bring it over, plug it in, and hopefully it should work just fine. It's only a fifteen or so minute vid so it shouldn't take long at all.

I realize its a big fav but not sure what else to do at this point. Don't have the time to wait and keep bugging Sony, don't have the money to run out and get a new drive ... assuming that could potentially work.

My emails below, my phone numbers on my website.

Only God will love you move than I if anyone can help.

Ray...I'm in Austin but don't think I'll be much help. I have DVDA1 but don't have usb2...my dvd burner and external hard drives are all firewire. Also, my burner is DVD+R format and you probably need DVD-R.

So...if your drive has firewire and you think DVDA1 would burn it and you can use DVD+R, I'd be glad to help you.

Thanks Phil, USB is backwards compatible, just slower. Though I strongly suspect the same is not true for DVDA 2. Really appreciate the offer though.

On a side note, nice work on the Norwalk commercial, they're right around the corner from my house.

Is the only problem burning from DVDA2? Why can’t you save the image to your hard drive and then burn with another program like Nero? If you don’t have Nero, download the trial copy and use it. (if you like it buy it) You really need to have several ways to burn a disk just to play it safe.

You just need to copy the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders that have been created in the "Prepare" step of the process although just in case your copy of DVDA2 has messed that up..you could also copy the MPEG and AC3 files and your DVDA2 "project" onto that external drive. No need to do that "Save and trim" step as you will not need the original AVI files.

Have you done what was suggested in this thread and other threads about burning the disk using another product (like NERO, Record Now)? Usually most DVD burners come with software that can burn DVD's and all you have to do is to load those AUDIO and VIDEO folders into that software and burn from there. That will at least verify if this is a problem purely with DVDA2 or with your burner/OS/hardware.

Good luck.

Ray,

We've meant to hook up, but I was tied up with a start-up. I'm available to help, have DVD2, DVD+&-R, and USB2. Call and come on over.

Thanks guys, and Ted great to talk to you. Looking forward to that cup of coffee !

Not sure what the deal is but sucked it up and bought a Sony DRU-530A, swapped em out and worked right out of the box. Never had any problems with the Pioneer, had done the upgrades etc and always worked like a charm. Regardless, got a new burner and all is right with the world.

Client actually showed up midway through the burn and before he finished his cup of coffee we were watching it on the tele. Happy to report he loved it. =)

Thanks for the compliment Ray...The couple that owns the Norwalk store are old friends of mine that I grew up with in Amarillo. I just took some stills that they provided and used Vegas to put a few pans and zooms and made a little original music track. The voiceover was a couple of the store employees and me and we just went to the little recording booth in Northcross Mall to cut that. It wasn't that fancy of a commercial but they seemed to like it. That part of town where you live is really a neat little area of Austin. Maybe we could catch a cup of coffee sometime when I'm up that way. I live in the Oak Hill area so if you're ever heading out this way, feel free to come by....Phil

ps glad you got the project finished up

Ray - was this the project with the "dodgy" text image? - G
MUTTLEY wrote on 5/19/2004, 11:46 PM
pdmath, thanks again man. Always down for a cup of coffee ( I'm a fanatic ). I live just blocks away from my favorite place in town, called Texspresso on Anderson. Shares parking with the Alamo Drafthouse. And funny that you live in Oak Hill, I never make it down that way but today actually cruised through there going to the Salt Lick. ( man with these name's I sound like a dam*n hick ! ) Do give me a heads up if your anywhere near Anderson Lane.

Grazie, the one and the same. No surprise eh ? Nothing worth having comes easy and this job was no exception. Was my first " big " paying gig and I sure was sweating that I was gonna blow it. Just glad the new burner solved the problem regarding burning. With the text I just made it bigger, the font a little brighter, and since the vid was short upped the quality on the DVD. I still have some issues but it was acceptable.

Thank God for other Vegas users, would feel so lost withoutcha !
