Anyone solved the "dumb" render problem yet?

I've seen a number of posts on this forum complaining about Vegas rendering an entire timeline of straight-cut, unfiltered, DV clips when printing to DV tape. However, I've yet to see a definitive solution. I'm playing with the Vegas 4.0 beta, and this behavior is replicated. I've already checked the following:
- all video levels are at 100%;
- there are no FX on the event, the track or the video output;
- I've deleted the "automatic" FX Vegas puts on the audio tracks;
- all captured files and selected output are DV NTSC presets.

Does the Beta include the SF DV codec? The files I've captured in SF Video Capture appear to be in the MS codec, and I can't find any setting to change this.

I really love the V4 beta, but if it's not smart enough to know when it shouldn't re-render unaltered DV video, I'm afraid it's pretty useless to me.

I'm suspecting this is in the beta. I'm not seeing this in the beta's I'm working with, but then again, it's not the same as the public beta.

Will this problem (see thread above) be cleared up in the release version of Vegas 4?

Does the public beta ship with the Sonic Foundry DV codec or not?

The beta AND the final release both have their CODEC. That isn't the problem.

You need to check and make sure your settings are not changed from the SoFo codec to the MS.

OK, how do I do this? I can't find anything that allows me to control the codec used. Preset options in Vegas for output simply say "NTSC DV," with no reference to codec. Video Capture includes something dealing with "codec" that looks promising under "Microsoft DV Device Properties," but the drop-down box is greyed out and can't be changed from the default, "dsdv." Under "Video Device," my only options are "Microsoft DV Device" and "Canopus DVRaptor" (I have both a Raptor card and an OHCI ADS Pyro installed on my system -- DV deck is connected to the OHCI for Vegas.)

Looking at "multimedia" under Windows System Information|Components shows only the Canopus and Microsoft DV codecs, no Sonic Foundry codec.

Could this be an installation problem? What's the name of the file (I'm guessing it's a .dll file) I'm looking for?

Print to tape will always need to render a Wave64 audio file. It won't render straight DV clips again.
Just tested V4 Beta with a 94 event, straight cuts one hour plus timeline. Rendered the .w64 audio file in just over two mintues and played out clean to Sony cam. DV files captured with VidCap2.5.

It seems from Doug and HPV's post, that something is messed up in my set-up. Can anyone help me?

This might solve the problem....go to Options>preferences>then scroll down to about the 19th or 20th little box on the left named, "Ignore third party codecs". That should be checked. Just below it is "Use MicrosoftDV codec". If that is checked then that might be the problem.

Thanks, snicholshms, but I've already tried that. No good -- Vegas still wants to render everything. I've also tried cutting and pasting the events onto new tracks and starting a whole new project. No help.

How about in the Video Capture application itself? Is there a switch in that program that will force capturing into the Sonic Foundry codec?

Thanks for the suggestions, keep 'em coming.
