Possibly the Help file is simply in the wrong folder.
I've had the same problem with other applications.
I don't know where it needs to be but you could search for the location of the other Vegas Help files and try copying the MM help file there and elswhere. You will not break anything trying this.
1) It's not for everyone. If you have a large stock video collection it's an awesome time saver. I have all of my animated backgrounds, sound FX, and stock footage cataloged in the Media Manager along with all of my ACID loops and I can find things in an instant that would otherwise take considerable time rummaging around hard drive folders for.
2) It's not easy for everyone to grasp how to use. Sony has made it very easy to use but there is still an initial investment to learning it. I created an entire VASST training DVD on it which just goes to show you that there is a lot to know about it. Most people won't invest that kind of time to learn it.
If you have a lot of reusable assets you should take a look at it. The media manager is a great productivity tool for getting and staying organized.
JR, that is, of course, a perfect use for MM. I don't have a large amount of reusables, but do find it very useful for organizing one project's clips when I have a large number of short takes. I've done this on about five projects now and it works a treat when you can quickly tag 300-500 clips, and then pick out the 20 or so that are actually going to be used.
I have found one shortcoming, that unless I am missing something, is a significant oversight. I am in the process of moving to a new PC and am taking the opportunity to change my folder structure. As expected, my Media Manage libraries now see these clips as "offline". What I didn't expect is there appears to be no way to tell MM that this whose set of clips that were in H:\MyMedia are now in J:\Media. I was expecting that MM would do like Vegas and once you told it the new location of the first clip, it would go ahead and update the rest. I sure wish I could get at this library with a SQL statement.

Using MM to easily fetch the clip I need from my rushes repository (near to 2000 using more than 400G).
An handy way to organise and sort my own mess but I am affraid I will go on using a directories hierachy instead. I would like MM to show only what I have told him to show, i.e. the media files matching the database properties and only those ones ! Not any file I open with Vegas. I wanted to have a media files library easy to access with my tags but it ends in shambles with all those pieces of nothing just opened or created for some tests. I am sick having to manually remove them after. I could play with several databases but I'd rather have a check button to tell vegas "do not add anything on open in the default db", or best, in each DB properties "do not autmacially add media".
Another thing that I really miss is with the preview in the trimmer: no way to scrub, so where's the use to preview in trimmer ?
LOTN,
There is an easy fix to this too: Under options=>preferences and on the General tab make sure "Save media-usage relationships in active media library" is not checked.
The default is checked, so when you upgrade or re-install, you need to go uncheck this again, otherwise you end up with random stuff in your libraries.
Thanks for the tip, I'll try this once I restart the whole thing, MM just crashed when dropping tags :-)
Jerry, when sorting my mess I got a window asking me to search for missing files. The dialog box ask you to leave it offline, remove from the library, manually browse or use smart search. I didn't check if it will be as smart as Vegas one. The solution given by kairosmatt rocks.
Will try to be able to scrub during preview thru MM, I got this one time, there should be some obscure "check this, uncheck that and restart" trick

Not exactly a Scrub, but you can utilize the "Choose thumbnail" tool to scrub through. And of course, you can then select what Frame will be used to display in Media Manager. However, I have used it as a kinda scrub too!
So I am out of luck: I remember that just after having upgraded to 8.0c I was able to use the slider in the trimmer. At that time I wanted to use the standard preview window and failed to glance at the FAQ. So I did a full reinstall and lost that very handy "feature".
Maybe another item to add to the wish list ? Will ask support.
