Applying chosen audio effect to audio track in Vegas Edit 18

I get everything about selecting an audio effect for the audio track in Vegas Edit 18, but what stops me is actually applying the effect. I looked everywhere for the answer. I preview the chosen effect in the audio track. Great. Now, how to apply it to the track? Stumped. I don't see an "OK" button or anything like it which indicates the effect will be applied. I can open the track in Audio Studio 15, make the changes I want, "Save As" the track, and then add it back in to the Vegas project, replacing the original track. That's not a solution. I shouldn't have to do that with the audio editing tools built into Vegas Pro. I may be missing something obvious, but I've spent a couple hours looking for the "obvious" answer. The user manual's instructions on adding an audio effect are obtuse and don't specifically answer this issue, so here I am.

Oh yeah. The effect I'm trying to apply is Track EQ.

The effect or process is written when the project is rendered. Otherwise is in preview mode unless the effect (or plug-in chain) is bypassed. If you wish to apply it directly to the 'file' , you could use "Open in audio editor" and apply it in Sound Forge (or whatever) which will overwrite the audio file (destructive editing).. "Open copy in audio editor" is safer and creates a new 'take' of the audio 'event'. The original audio media file remains untouched.
'Render to new track' is another option to 'write' effects prior to rendering the project.
