Archiving the DETAILS

SonicEPM said in another post:

"One project file is all you need to recreate your project from timecode tape"

Am I to understand that if I save ONLY the .VEG file and have the original timecoded tape, I can recapture from that tape and apply that .VEG file and EVERYTHING will be FINISHED, a DUPLICATE of the original full and completed project?

Or, are there other files needed to do that trick? If so, please, which ones?

The .veg file won't contain any media other than what you generate within Vegas (titles, text, credits, colored backgrounds, etc.) Any other media you've included such as music, stills, video clips from sources other than your capture, etc. will NOT be in the .veg file. You will need to archive these in some way as well.

It might also be worth noting that if you re-install Vegas or change workstations, your presets and templates will not be saved, per se...

Your .veg files will contain the settings for the FX, transitions and text, but they will need to be re-saved as presets for future use.

To my knowledge, rendering templates cannot be archived and restored in another station or install, other than manually recording the settings in some fashion (like an exel file).

Actually, you ARE onto something. Although the files are not saved WITH the .veg file, it does include the proper information to recapture clips from the original tapes. So, yes, the .veg file is enough to get the media back in from tape and properly placed on the timeline. Any other resources (such as music from a CD, still photos, ...) you will have to locate manually.
